Sunderland Midfielder Jack Colback Says Last Derby Against Newcastle Still Hurts

Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback will be out for revenge in the upcoming Wear-Tyne derby after admitting the club's last encounter with Newcastle still haunts him.

The Black Cats were denied their first victory in the fixture since October 2008 at St James' Park in March when Shola Ameobi netted a last-gasp equaliser for the hosts to seal a 1-1 draw.

Colback is hoping Sunderland can erase the hurt of that encounter when they host the Magpies at the Stadium of Light after the international break.

He told The Journal: "We can't wait for the derby. I thought we should have won at least one of the derby matches last season.

"The game at St James' Park still stings a little bit. I'm not one for looking back, but it was really disappointing to concede so late on as we did that day."

Colback has lamented the timing of the current international break, which is the third of the season, with several members of Martin O'Neill's squad away with their respective countries.

He added: "It's unfortunate that we have had another international break. This is our third and it's really made the season a bit stop-start.

"The break has given the derby game a big build up and that's fine. It's a game we are really looking forward to."
