Noble had a spell on loan at Victoria Park last season.
The striker has been farmed out on loan on numerous occasions from Sunderland but has also suffered from a series of injuries over recent years.
He has shot to prominence in pre-season though after scoring twice in Sunderland's 3-2 win in the Peace Cup over FC Groningen.
Hartlepool manager Neale Cooper told the Hartlepool Mail: "There is no secret I still like Ryan Noble at Sunderland. He has been featuring in the first team there in pre-season, and great for him to be able to do that.
"But if he isn't come the start then I think he would love playing alongside Stevie (Howard)."
