Goalkeeper Ben Wilson and defenders Louis Laing, Blair Adams, Liam Marrs and Jordan Watson have all signed new deals with the club.
Joining them are midfielders Roarie Deacon, James Armstrong and Adam Reed.
Having made the step up from the Academy, young defenders Connor Oliver and Anthony Callaghan plus Jordan Laidler, a striker, have signed their first professional contracts.
Meanwhile, the development squad will feature two new players after David Ferguson and Wade Joyce signed for the Black Cats following successful trials with the club.
Ferguson, a defender, was formerly with Darlington, while midfielder Wade Joyce had a spell on the books at Bury.
