The arrival of Martin O'Neill rejuvenated the Black Cats last season and he will be hoping to continue this momentum as his side hosts Reading in their next fixture before starting September with a trip to Swansea.
Champions Manchester City host the Black Cats in the opening week of October, while the first derby match falls in the same month with Newcastle arriving at the Stadium of Light.
