The arrival of Martin O'Neill rejuvenated the Black Cats last season and he will be hoping to continue this momentum as his side hosts Reading in their next fixture before starting September with a trip to Swansea.
Champions Manchester City host the Black Cats in the opening week of October, while the first derby match falls in the same month with Newcastle arriving at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland face a tough festive period as they head to Manchester United ahead of a Boxing Day home clash with City and Tottenham's visit ends 2012 before a New Year's Day clash with Liverpool.
O'Neill takes his side to Chelsea at the start of April and the Black Cats head to St James' Park later in the month.
Sunderland end the campaign with home games against Stoke and Southampton before an away clash against Tottenham.
