  • 63 Rooney back in the left-back position to stop Elmohamady from getting down the line. He stands his ground and ends up winning a free-kick.
  • 62 Bardsley in the wars again. He's taken a few knocks today. Keeps bouncing back up though. As I say that, he appears to have signalled to the bench that he wants to come off. He does, being replaced by Bridge.
  • 61 Sunderland's turn to press again. This is turning into some afternoon. Have to remember that this game is far from over and the Black Cats could sneak something.
  • 60 Long ball from Jones threatens to carve Sunderland open. Mignolet alive to the danger and darts off his line. He collides with Bardsley.
  • 59 Brilliant block as Young tries to make it two. Valencia with more fine wing play. Young meets the ball on the half-volley, but sees his effort end up fizzing over the top. Giggs' corner is cleared by Bramble.

  • 50 Young delivers long towards Jones. He gets up really well, but can only divert his header wide of the target. Great chance to make this game a little safer.
  • 49 Ferguson still looks relaxed. He hasn't moved from his seat, not even to call for calm. On the field, Young is felled and United have a free-kick wide on their left. They pack the box.
  • 48 Cisse has scored for QPR! United fans celebrate with the ball stuck in midfield. Odd for the players, but they must know what has happened.

  • Sunderland 0 Man Utd. Rooney's header is the difference at the interval. Not enough for United, but they are giving themselves a chance.

  • 45+1 Evra beats Campbell to a high ball. Rooney then lifts a brilliant pass into Carrick. He in turn finds Young, who delivers quickly to the back post. Once again the delivery drifts out of play before a United player can get a touch.
  • Two minutes of stoppage time to be played.
  • 45 Bardsley has gone to left-back following O'Shea's departure. United playing the ball across their back four now, slightly risky. Campbell can't close them though as he is still limping.
  • 44 Elmohamady with a decent cross as he gets his first touch. United can't clear and Vaughan collects 20 yards. He goes for goal, but sees his effort blocked by Evans.
  • 43 O'Shea limping and he won't be able to continue. Elmohamady on in his place. Gardner will slip in at right-back.
  • 42 Campbell isolated up front and can't reach his own flick. Valencia bulldozing forward again for United. He somehow forces in a cross, but Mignolet darts off his line to gather.
  • 41 United players need to make sure they don't let news from the stands alter the way they have approached this game. They need to make sure they wrap up a win here to make sure they give themselves every chance.
  • 40 Bad news for United fans, City have taken the lead. Here, Campbell is down and needs treatment. News has arrived here of City's goal. United fans lose their voice.
  • 39 Young with time and space to pick out a cross. He gets too much whip on his delivery from the left wing and it curls away from Giggs.

  • 37 Evra brushes past Bardsley and feeds Giggs, who holds onto the ball really well with his back to goal. United prepared to go backwards and wait for gaps to open up. Jones then barges into McClean and sees yellow. He didn't hold back with a shoulder charge.
  • 36 Campbell should have levelled. Great move from Sunderland, sees the ball looped into the path of Campbell as he ghosts down the middle. He meets the ball on the volley and fires well wide. Let off for United.
  • 35 De Gea with an odd touch as the ball is played in his direction. He loops it off the turf and his volley clear is not the best. Evra helps him out.
  • 34 Giggs spins as he moves the ball on. United enjoying themselves now. Oles from the away support. Somehow a flowing move ends up with Rooney failing to get a telling touch to a mis-hit shot from Young. He diverts the ball wide from six yards. Big miss.
  • 33 Valencia skips away to the by-line again, but he will be pulled back. He appeared to have outmuscled O'Shea, but the flag goes up.

  • 28 Smart stop from Mignolet to deny Giggs. Either side of the Sunderland keeper and it may well have been two. The shot flashed straight at him from just inside the box. United looking to wrap this up early doors.
  • 27 Scholes at the centre of everything for United, as he so often is. Valencia still causing problems as well, but this time he is unable to force his way past three red and white shirts. He tried, showing how confident he is right now.

  • 21 United sitting top of the table as things stand. Still goalless at the Etihad. Imagine the news from here will filter through at City pretty quickly. United fans in full voice now.
  • 20 GOAL MAN UTD - ROONEY. United work the ball wide to their right, and the feet of Jones. His delivery is curled to the back post where an unmarked Rooney nods home from close range.

  • 18 Another corner to United as Bramble nods a Giggs cross behind. He needed a call as there was no-one behind him. Giggs' floated delivery is met by Jones, who beats Mignolet to the ball and sees his header brush the roof of the net. So close to an opener.
  • 17 Campbell forced all the way back with Young. He just about prevents a corner. Valencia back on the ball down the United right, but O'Shea is able to keep him quiet this time. He is learning as we go.
  • 16 Sloppy as McClean gifts the ball to Valencia. He makes up for his own mistake by tracking back. United can't find a way through at the moment.

  • 8 Sessegnon leads a Sunderland charge, but lacks support. It arrives in the shape of Gardner, but he is forced wide by a poor pass. The move breaks down. United patient in their build-up.
  • 7 Vaughan tests De Gea with an effort from 25 yards. He tries to find McClean, but when the ball breaks back in his direction he lets rip. Comfortable stop for De Gea as he sees the effort all the way into his hands.
  • 6 Gardner and Colback snapping at the heels of Rooney and Scholes, giving neither time on the ball. This is going to be no final day walk in the park for the visitors. Jones is able to feed a low cross into the box, but it is hammered clear by Turner.
  • 5 Solid defending from Bardsley, another United old boy, as he nods back to Mignolet with Rooney lurking behind him. Sunderland then go long, which is a bad idea, and United get the ball back.
  • 4 Campbell now operating down the right, with Sessegnon pushed down the middle. He almost catches Ferdinand in possession as he runs the ball out from the back. United need to up the tempo.
  • 3 United take the opportunity to string some passes together. They will want to stamp their authority of this game as soon as possible. Won't be happening now as Giggs is caught offside.

  • 1 De Gea with an early touch, and one under pressure. He clear his lines easily enough in the end. Campbell buzzing around up front for Sunderland. He wants to impress against his former employers, and with Euro 2012 around the corner.
  • Sunderland get us up and running, after a false start by United.
  • Players going through the pre-match rituals. Plenty of cameras focused on the United dug out. Sir Alex Ferguson looks quite relaxed. He's been here many times before.
  • The teams are in the tunnel and the waiting is almost over. Here we go, hold onto your hats! We will have to leave the feedback there for now but have no fear, there will be further opportunities to have your say at half-time and at the final whistle.
  • Sir Alex has just been speaking to Sky Sports and has called for concentration from his players. He says he will not be going all out for an early goal, allowing United to send some bad news to the Etihad. We'll see!
  • Half-an-hour until kick-off. Keep your thoughts coming in to Chris.Burton@bskyb.com and @SkySportsChrisB on what promises to be a lively final day. Will the biggest prize be presented at the Stadium of Light?
  • Today's referee is Howard Webb.
  • Man Utd team: De Gea, Jones, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Scholes, Carrick, Giggs, Young, Rooney. Subs: Owen, Berbatov, Park, Hernandez, Nani, Rafael, Amos.
  • Sunderland team: Mignolet, O'Shea, Bardsley, Bramble, Turner, Gardner, McClean, Colback, Vaughan, Sessegnon, Campbell. Subs: Bridge, Wickham, Dong-won, Meyler, Kyrgiakos, Elmohamady, Westwood.
  • Two Premier League trophies doing the rounds today - one at the Etihad and one at the Stadium of Light. What happened to the good old days when they would have a helicopter on standby ready to whisk the 'real' one to the right destination?
  • You can also bet in-play throughout the afternoon at skybet.com. Sunderland start as outsiders at 6/1, with Manchester United 4/9 and the draw 7/2. You can get 250/1 on United to win 9-0. A more realistic shout may be Wayne Rooney as first goalscorer at 5/2.
  • Will United be celebrating a 20th top flight title? Can Sunderland spring a surprise? Who will be the stars of the show? Let me know your thoughts.
  • Feel free to have your say on today's game, the title race and whatever else takes your fancy by contacting me direct at Chris.Burton@bskyb.com or @SkySportsChrisB.
  • United have to keep believing that fate will smile on them, with the 2011/12 campaign proving time and again that anything is possible. This title race is far from finished and there may be a number of twists and turns to come today.
  • It is unlikely that they will close that eight-goal gap, so they are looking for basement-battling QPR to do them a favour. Of course, they also have to fill their half of the bargain against Sunderland. If they lose here, whatever happens at City will be irrelevant.
  • Manchester United must better Manchester City's result if they are to take the crown, or pick up a thumping victory that allows them to overturn City's goal difference advantage.
  • The Premier League title race has gone all the way to the wire and the destiny of the crown will be decided in the matches being played out here, and back in Manchester at the Etihad Stadium.
  • The hosts will be setting their sights on a top-half finish this afternoon, but it is fair to say that it is their opponents who will be hogging the spotlight.
  • Welcome to the Stadium of Light for our coverage of today's Premier League encounter between Sunderland and Manchester United.
