Meyler has started one game since Martin O’Neill took over as manager.

The Irish midfielder made his return to the Sunderland team earlier this season after two lengthy knee injuries.

Speaking at the Foundation of Light Top Scorer Awards, Meyler said that he hoped to “get game time” in Sunderland’s final three games this season.

He also said he hoped to be involved in the game against relegation strugglers Bolton Wanderers this weekend but admits it will be a tough game.

Meyler explained: “It will be tough game as they’re fighting for their lives and looking for some points.”
