Winter Swell: Paddleboarding At Whitley Bay

The North Sea might be ice cold this winter, but that doesn’t faze paddleboarder Nick Graham.

As winter temperatures gripped the North East, he took to the sea at Whitley Bay on his specially-designed board, along with a lightweight carbon fibre paddle, to ride the October swell.

Nick, an instructor at Boardskillz, said: "Basically you’re stood up on a large surf board with a single-bladed paddle."

"You’re able to paddle on any body of water, whether it be flat water or head high waves."

"It’s a great way to get fit, a great way to enjoy yourself and just a great hobby."
