Sunderland Women's FC grabbed Wear-Tyne bragging rights with a 3-1 win against Newcastle United Women's FC in the Premier League Cup.

Almost 500 fans turned up at the Hetton Centre to see the rivals play exactly one week before the men’s fixture.

Sunderland captain Steph Bannon grabbed her first goals of the season, netting twice in the first half.

Sophie Williams made it 3-0 but Kelly McDougall failed to make it four, missing a penalty just before half-time.

Molly Collinson nipped in at the far post to give Newcastle hope after the break but the Premier League Cup holders held on.
