Call Up Round-Up: International Duties For Sunderland And Newcastle Players

The latest international fixtures are just round the corner and a 14 players from Newcastle United and Sunderland will be representing their respective countries.

Scotland have included Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher in their squad for the first time since February 2011 after the in-form forward held clear-the-air talks with manager Craig Levein. They take on Wales at the Millennium Stadium on October 12 before hosting Belgium on October 16.

Simon Mignolet is aiming for his twelfth international cap

That Belgium squad will include goalkeeper Simon Mignolet with a qualifier against Serbia up first before the trip to Hampden Park. The 24-year-old will be in contention for his twelfth international cap but faces competition from usual number one, Thibaut Courtois.

Winger Adam Johnson has been called up to the England squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Roy Hodgson’s side take on San Marino at Wembley Friday October 12 before negotiating a tough trip to Poland on Tuesday October 16.

Danny Rose and Connor Wickham are in Stuart Pearce’s England Under-21 squad for the impending Euro 2013 play-off ties with Serbia. The two teams will contest the first leg at Carrow Road next Friday, before the reverse fixture in Serbia four days later.

James McClean remains part of the Republic of Ireland set up

Elsewhere, David Meyler has been drafted into Giovanni Trapattoni’s Republic of Ireland squad as cover for the injured Kevin Doyle. The Irish face Germany on October 12, before travelling to the Faroe Irelands for the second of their October World Cup qualifiers. Goalkeeper Kieren Westwood, defender John O’Shea and winger James McClean are also amongst the selected 23 players for the Group C clashes.

Group C also involves Sweden who have included Sebastian Larsson in the squad for their two away matches against Faroe Islands and Germany.

Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote is in the Ivory Coast squad for their African Cup of Nations qualifying play-off with Senegal next weekend. The 26-year-old makes his international return following a calf injury picked up on the opening day of the Premier League season.
