Defeat in their last game to Worcester has left the Falcons eight points from safety in the Aviva Premiership.
They have four games left to avoid relegation and Welch says that the coaching staff are urging everyone to ‘remain positive’.
Welch explained that director of rugby Gary Gold has told the squad that they must block out negativity to ensure they remain focused on staying up.
He said: “The message they’ve instilled in us since they came in is that we’re in a part of the season when we have to pick ourselves up after each game.
“We can’t afford to be down in the dumps.”
Welch has featured in 23 games this season and made his debut for the Falcons in 2008.
