There are three David Fergusons on the North East boxing circuit but the youngest of them says he will retire if he loses his next fight.
David Ferguson Junior, also known as Karl just to differentiate him from the others, lost his last bout against William Warburton, when he fought at welterweight.
Ferguson Junior, 26, put that defeat down to bad preparation but will return to his favoured lightweight division when he fights on May 18 at Wraith Promotions' 'Black and White Fight Night' at Newcastle's O2 Academy.
If he loses again though he says he will quit the sport and follow namesake David Mark Ferguson out of boxing.
Ferguson Junior said: "This is my boxing career on the line basically.
"If I lose my next fight that's two defeats on-the-trot and I'll have to hang my gloves up, simple as that.
"This fight means far too much for me to lose."
Also on the 'Black and White Fight Night' bill are Andy Buchanan, Mark Clauzel and Rob Ismay, with more names to be announced.
Doors open at 4pm on the day and tickets priced at £30 are available from the O2 Academy Box Office or via the boxers themselves.
