Ward has seen three previous opportunities to fight for the belt fall through after injury and withdrawals.

He was initially supposed to fight Mike Robinson for the belt before the Liverpool based fighter pulled out.

Booth stepped in for the bout after Robinson withdrew.

He is a former world title challenger and lost out on the WBA European super-bantamweight title to Willie Casey last time he visited the North East.

24-year-old Ward says Booth, ten years his senior, is at the end of his career and was a great fighter, in his day.

Ward also says that he’s in great condition to beat his Nottingham based opponent.

“I’m just too young, too fresh and too sharp for Jason Booth.”

“It’s guaranteed to be five straight defeats for him, he’s at the end of his career and he should be happy with what he’s done in life instead of telling people I’m not as good as I am, and that I had an easy run.”

“We’ll see how easy a run he get’s on Sunday.”
