The 'Parkfest 500' events are being run by Newcastle City Council and aim to utilise the London 2012 Olympic Games to inspire children to play sport.
Competitors ran and jumped as well as played football, laser shooting, tennis and wheelchair basketball.
Newcastle City Council raising participation manager Neil Ramshaw said: “We are encouraging family groups to come down and have a go at some Olympic competition.
“We are sure loads of people will come down after the success in London.”
