The live TV event, sponsored by Sky Sports Living For Sport, saw hundreds of the best child athletes in the country descend on Tyneside.
Tyne and Wear competitors were well represented in Northumberland and Durham’s squads.
Gateshead’s Barry Maskell won bronze in the senior boys 2000m steeplechase.
He was competing for Durham but Northumberland appeared to fair better than their rivals in the championships.
Northumberland Schools chairman Richard Braden said: “Our athletes have done remarkably well, we have had over 10 personal bests.”
He pointed out particular success in triple jump where Emma Pringle finished fourth and Scott Hall won a bronze medal.
Durham team manager Mike Howard said: “This year we might have come off second best to Northumberland but there is always next year.
“It has been a learning weekend for quite a lot of athletes, one or two have achieved success.”
