Spectacular video and lighting installations along Whitley Bay Links - 3rd & 4th November

The North Tyneside seafront will be bathed in waves of light when the Shimmer digital arts festival makes a spectacular return to Whitley Bay during the weekend of November 3 and 4, 5pm-8.30pm.
The centrepiece of the event will see Whitley Bay’s celebrated Spanish City dome lit up by a magical projection of vibrant colours, while the night sky will be illuminated with fireworks as Shimmer draws to a close on the Sunday evening.

Thousands of people were enchanted and inspired by last year’s inaugural festival, which was a finalist in the ‘Best Event – Tyneside’ category of The Journal Culture Awards 2011.

And Shimmer 2012 promises to be an even bigger and better experience.
Organised by North Tyneside Council and supported by Arts Council England, Shimmer features the work of digital artists who have been commissioned to create installations that celebrate the traditions and timelessness of Whitley Bay, not least the town’s much-loved Spanish City fairground.
