Sunderland Astronomical Society Seeking New Stargazers

By Nisha Joshi Location: Washington

The Sunderland Astronomical Society is keen to recruit more stargazers.

It's based at the Washington Wetland Centre's observatory.

The telescope there can see objects up to 55 million light years away.

On a clear night, the rings of Saturn can be seen in close detail.

These pictures have been taken by members of the Sunderland Astronomical Society either at the Washington Wetlands Centre Observatory or through their own telescopes.

The Sunderland Astronomical Society meets at the observatory in Washington and at other North East locations.

In the spring and autumn it also runs the Kielder Forest Star Camp where people camp out under the darkest sky in England to get the best views of the night sky.
