Police are hunting an attacker who threw a glass bottle filled with flammable liquid at a house in Walker.
It happened just before 2am on Sunday, October 21 on Belmont Walk.
Fortunately it failed to ignite properly and no-one was injured.
Northumbria Police said: "On investigation it appears the object was a glass bottle which contained some accelerant."
DI John Gardner said: "I'd urge anyone who saw the object being thrown or who has information about the person responsible to contact us as soon as possible. Police are paying extra attention to the area as enquiries continue."
