The One Big Event programme will see a raft of unusual activities taking place across the city, archery returning to Hylton Castle, choirs at Sunderland Aquatic Centre, dancing where you would usually shop and fitness sessions at the Central Library and Arts Centre.

Councillor John Kelly, Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture, said: "People in Sunderland have really embraced the Sunderland in 2012 programme, showing their support for events like the 24-hour Swimathon, the Big Bike Ride and more recently the celebration of the Olympic Flame travelling through the city.

"One Big Event is another chance for people to try their hand at something they might not normally have the opportunity to take part in and they also have the option to just enjoy watching too if they are unsure about having a go.

"There are a number of activities taking place all under the umbrella of One Big Event, and all are free for people to take part in. I would definitely urge people to come along and enjoy something out of the norm.”
