Newcastle United have rubbished reports that Russian side Rubin Kazan have triggered Demba Ba's contractual release clause.
Ba's contract stipulates that he would be allowed to leave for a fee, believed to be around £7m, this summer if any other club made the correct bid.
But the club have moved quickly to deny any such move has been made.
United have also continued to be linked with Matieu Debuchy but further reports suggest that a deal for the French international could be some way off and Newcastle may in fact walk away from the transfer.
Two Marseille players are also being linked with a move to Alan Pardew's side but while they face competition for one, the other may have a part to play in securing another target for Newcastle.
