Carroll was bought by Liverpool in January 2011 for £35m and many Newcastle fans saw the home-grown player's departure as a sign of betrayal.
The former Redheugh FC Boys club star was booed by some fans at St James' Park when Liverpool played their 2011/2012 Premier League fixture on Tyneside in April 2012.
