The victory secures United’s passage into the group stages of the competition.

Having drawn the first leg 1-1 thanks to a late Ryan Taylor goal in Athens, Taylor’s replacement through injury in the second leg Vuckic ensured Newcastle won the tie.

Taylor was forced off with an injured knee after 11 minutes and the Slovenian international made his mark nine minutes later.

Collecting the ball from Danny Simpson’s 21^st minute throw-in, Vuckic lost his man and struck from 20 yards.

The ball took a slight deflection on its way through and beat the Atromitos goalkeeper to ensure Newcastle go into the next round.

The Greek side did have their chances to grab an away goal but failed to convert with German international Denis Epstein wasting a chance from 12 yards in second half injury time.

United will find out who they will play in the group stages of the competition in the draw in Monaco next Friday September 7.
