Harper senior coaches the Red House Farm Hawks Under 10 side, the team Harper Jnr plays for.
James scored four of the Hawks' 14 goals in their opening day win over Tynemouth Hornets in the KYPC League.
Steve Harper said: “It won’t be like this every week. I hope Tynemouth are not too disheartened, but it was an exceptional result."
James says he does not want to emulate his goalkeeper dad because he has ambitions as a striker.
He said: “I wouldn’t want to follow in my dad’s footsteps and be a goalkeeper, I like scoring goals too much."
Steve said: "He's very quick, he's everything I'm not, he's a flying machine."
