Newcastle confirmed on Thursday the 23-year-old midfielder has penned a five-year deal at St James' Park after spending his entire career to date in Amsterdam.
Alan Pardew's side narrowly missed out on a UEFA Champions League place last term after challenging for a top-four spot for much of the campaign, and Holland international Anita hopes they can go a step further this year.
He told Sky Sports: "I watched a lot of games in the Premier League and I've seen Newcastle play and they play very well, very good football.
"It's too bad that they didn't get fourth place but it's ok. This year we must improve our skills to be in the top four."
Happy
Anita notched up just over 100 appearances for Ajax after making his debut for the Eredivisie giants in 2005.
While he admits leaving his boyhood club was tough, the Dutchman is looking forward to getting started with the Magpies.
"It was very hard. I'd been there for 13 years," he said. "It was difficult but in football players leave.
"Now I'm at Newcastle and I'm very happy to be here."
