The Holland international, who can play at left-back or in midfield, has been one of Alan Pardew's transfer targets for much of the summer.
Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul has voiced his desire for Anita to join the side.
He told Dutch sport magazine NuSport: "Anita is definately capable for the Premier League.
"I have already played with him back at Dutch U-15 and he is tough enough in the duels.
"I understand Anita has to agree on personal terms. We surely can use a player who can be used in multiple positions."
Anita is reportedly set to sign a five-year contract with Newcastle United, who he claims will pay Ajax a fixed fee of €8.5million (£6.7m), plus bonuses.
Should the medical run smoothly the transfer could be finalised in the coming days.
