Ajax are believed to have rejected an offer for the versatile midfielder earlier in the summer, with Sunderland also thought to be interested in the player.
Reports in July suggested that Anita had informed the club of his wish to leave. But Ajax's management are doing all they can to persuade him to stay.
"Ajax do not want to lose Vurnon. Therefore we have offered him a new deal until 2015 or 2016," sporting director Marc Overmars said to De Telegraaf.
"The coaches are very clear and see Vurnon as an important first team player. We don't want to let go of him. He will become one of the top earners at Ajax with his new contract."
The 23-year-old's current contract with Ajax is due to expire in two years' time.
Ajax management will be hoping that, due to the strict wage structure in place at Newcastle, a contract making Anita one of the best paid players at the club would persuade him that staying put is his best option.
Anita, who has three caps for Netherlands, has made more than 100 appearances in the Eredivisie for Ajax since making his debut in 2005/06.
