The Brazil-born 24-year-old is closing on Dutch citizenship, which will make him even more appealing to potential suitors.
He would then be able to move to the Premier League without the need for a work permit.
Newcastle are aware of his situation and have had their sights on him for some time.
Bid
Sky Sports revealed on Thursday that the Magpies had made their move by putting an offer to Twente.
Douglas, though, claims to be unaware of the approach and intends to spend the 2012/13 campaign in the Eredivisie.
He told TC Tubantia: "I and my agent know nothing of a bid from Newcastle.
"I want to stay at Twente this season."
