Newcastle have reportedly made two bids for the defender but Sky Tyne and Wear understands he does not want to leave just yet so he can play for the Dutch national team
The players’ agent Leonardo Scheinkman says Brazillian-born Douglas wants to stay with Twente until he has played in Holland for five years.
This is because, despite holding a Dutch passport he must wait until the end of next month to qualify to play for the Dutch national team according to FIFA regulations.
Despite the obstacle though, Scheinkman wanted to stress that Douglas is keen to move, saying: “Newcastle is a good club, of course we want to go there.”
