Sky Sports understands that Borussia Monchengladbach have agreed a deal for the in-demand FC Twente striker.
Newcastle failed with a bid for the Dutch international earlier this summer, despite the fact they sent managing director Derek Llambias to Holland to negotiate the move.

But, since their interest in De Jong waned, United have lodged a bid to re-sign former striker Andy Carroll on loan.
Gladbach have always maintained an interest and now they have struck a deal with Twente reportedly around €20million.
It is now understood that De Jong is set to travel to Germany and will undergo a medical in the next 48 hours.
