Workmen cut short erecting large Olympic rings at Newcastle’s St James’ Park because of torrential rain.

They managed to put up a small section of the five rings on the glass front of the Millburn Stand before calling it a day.

They now expect to finish the design on Friday July 13.

The workers told Sky Tyne and Wear they will place large coloured Olympic rings inside the stadium on Thursday July 12.

The famous symbols will go inside the huge transparent windbreakers either side of the Millburn and Sir John Hall Stands.
