Del Fava signed for the Falcons this summer and has played 54 times for Italy.
The lock forward comes into the Falcons squad after their relegation from the Premiership.
But, Del Fava says that he is unconcerned about joining a side in the Championship because he is keen to work under Richards.
The new director of rugby is set to join up with the side in mid August.
Del Fava said: “Dean Richards is a rugby legend and the chance to play for him was one of the big deciding factors in coming to Newcastle.”
