Lipman says he is "unsure" of future plans after taking too many bangs to the head.
The former England international, who won the last of his 10 caps back in 2008, has impressed during his time back in Australia.
Lipman initially joined club side Warringah before moving to the Rebels for their inaugural season in 2010.
However the former Bristol and Bath back-rower, who grew up in Sydney and even made the Australia Under-21s side, is coming to the end of his current deal at the Rebels.
And, having suffered from concussion on a number of occasions during his career - including a run of five bouts in a six-month spell during the 2008-09 season at the Rec that saw him undergo consultations with a neurosurgeon - the 32-year-old admits he is at a crossroads over his next move.
Newcastle and Top 14 new-boys Grenoble had held talks over potential deals but Lipman is also considering retirement to begin a life away from the sport.
"My future is unsure at this stage," Lipman told Sky Sports.
"I've had a few head knocks in my time so I am weighing up whether to continue playing or moving on with the next path in my working life.
"It's a difficult decision to make as you're a long time retired so I'm just weighing up my options."
