Although the Falcons are still waiting to discover which division they will be playing in next season after they finished bottom of the Aviva Premiership, they have followed up the signing of Scott MacLeod by agreeing terms with South Africa-born del Fava.
The 30-year-old has a wealth of experience, having been capped 54 caps by the Azzurri while his former clubs include the Sharks, Rugby Parma, Bourgoin, Ulster, Viadana and Aironi.
And del Fava is looking forward to teaming up with the Falcons and their new director of rugby Dean Richards.
He told the club's official site: "Newcastle Falcons are a club that is on the up and I am really looking forward to the challenge of playing in England.
"There are some exciting times ahead for the club, further strengthened by the appointment of Dean Richards as director of rugby.
"I am delighted to have signed for a club with a bright future and my family and I look forward to making a new home in the north east."
