Magpies manager leaves transfer talks with Ashley
Alan Pardew claims the success of Newcastle's efforts to bring Andy Carroll back to St James' Park rests with the club's board and owner Mike Ashley.
The Magpies are keen to offer Carroll a route back to Tyneside, 18 months after offloading him to Liverpool in a record-breaking £35million deal.
Sky Sports understands the England international is reluctant to leave Anfield on a permanent basis, but has been informed that he does not figure in Brendan Rodgers' immediate plans.
The Reds have hinted that they would be willing to send Carroll out on loan, and Newcastle have already made one approach.
They saw a loan bid with an option to buy knocked back, but have refused to accept defeat.
Pardew would welcome the opportunity to add Carroll to his attacking ranks for 2012/13, but concedes that he will have little input in further transfer negotiations.
Detached
He told the Evening Chronicle: "That whole process is a little bit more involved with the chairman and the board at Liverpool.
"We have got a great team here, a great squad, and if Andy Carroll comes, it will only add to us.
"It's simple, really. Sometimes transfers are done at corporate level. I'm slightly detached from that. It will be what it will be.
"It's been said that he's available and if we are involved, then we will be involved because of the figures, not anything else, because we know he's good enough."
We have got a great team here, a great squad, and if Andy Carroll comes, it will only add to us.
