The Australian said: "I left in 2009 and was meant to come back for the 2010 season but as everyone knows Gateshead went under, I felt like I had unfinished business and always since that year I've wanted to come back."
McBride spoke to Sky Tyne and Wear after watching Thunder lose 50-6 to Castleford Tigers at the International Stadium.
The 6'6" giant said: "It was a tough first hit out for the boys, it didn't go the way the boys were hoping, I would like to get out there and help them out a bit."
McBride has just started training after missing the whole of last season following a hernia operation.
He said: "Last year I had a bad year, I just want to get back into it and play consistent hard football."
