Why Jon Shaw rejected the chance to stay at Gateshead

In an exclusive interview with Sky Tyne and Wear, Gateshead striker Jon Shaw has explained why he has turned down Gateshead's offer of a new two year contract.

Shaw scored 45 goals in 80 appearances for Gateshead and finished last season as third top scorer in the Blue Square Bet Premier with 28 goals.

He said: "I have had a great two years at Gateshead and thoroughly enjoyed it, so telling the club I would not be signing my new contract was difficult.

"I am getting to the stage in my career where I want to be testing myself at the highest level possible."
