Whitley Bay manager Ian Chandler reckoned his side's poor performance in their last game was merely a blip and he was cheered by an improved display yesterday at Hillheads Park.
Newton Aycliffe's chances of causing an upset were just about ended by the hour mark, by which time they trailed by three goals.
Ash Davis opened the scoring after only 12 minutes when he hammered a Lee Kerr cross into the roof of the net.
Whitley added a second goal on the stroke of half-time as James Novak scored with a direct free-kick. Although Aycliffe goalkeeper Scott Pocklington managed to get a hand to the ball, he couldn't keep it out of the net.
Brad Brooking was denied by Pocklington but a third goal was only delayed until the 60th minute when Paul Chow took advantage of hesitation in the visitors defence to score an easy goal.
Aycliffe did manage one goal with Fred Woodhouse heading over goalkeeper Kyle Hayes but they never threatened to half Whitley's revival.
