Inconsistency has been the hallmark of Sunderland RCA's season and another indifferent performance resulted in Newcastle Benfield roaring to an easy victory.
They went in front on seven minutes when poor defending opened up the opportunity for man-of-the-match Gary Ormston and he gave goalkeeper Neal Atkinson no chance with a good volley.
Worse was to follow for the Wearsiders when Alex Benjamin was fouled and Ormston stepped forward to convert the penalty.
Debutant Josh Home Jackson had a chance to reduce the deficit but the former Durham City player headed wide and midway through the second period, Benfield put the result beyond doubt with Ormston completing his hat-trick from close-range.
Anthony Woodhouse, appointed manager on Thursday, celebrated his first success with Benfield.
