Star & Shadow Present Film Festival

Newcastle’s Star and Shadow cinema, a unique venue, a community-interest company run entirely by volunteers, has long been a magnet for Newcastle’s independent movie-makers,

Now, for the first time in its six year history, the Star and Shadow is hosting a festival night showcasing the work of its in-house studio.

The event on July 15 will see a range of the work created within the studio, ranging from documentaries to dramas and experimental films.

Director Adrin Neatour said: “The Star and Shadow studio is a critical mass of creative people coming together in a loose coalition of interests with the purpose of making film happen.

“The Star and Shadow provides a nurturing environment for anyone interested in film-making. We are cash-poor but rich in resources – we run workshops in all aspects of film-making and have access to a wide range of equipment. There is also a lot of value in working with others with a shared ethos – we provide each other with feedback and support as well as collaborating on the practical side of things.”

£5 or £3.50 for concessions.

Star and Shadow film-makers work independently but films are produced because the studio creates the conditions for the individuals to act as a shared resource.

Star and Shadow Studio runs film production and script writing courses, film acting workshops and teaches film processing. There is also a wide variety of 16mm and 8mm cameras as well as an HD rig.

The Star and Shadow Cinema is a Community Interest Company which is run, programmed and maintained entirely by volunteers.

Our mission is to provide a haven from the mundane mainstream of film and music. Our fully independent programme offers films and events that otherwise simply would not happen.

We show inspirational and inspired films as cheaply as possible, as well as providing a venue for an eclectic range of events including gigs, club nights and anything in between.

We also like to think that we facilitate a nurturing environment for independent creativity and thinking. The Star and Shadow Cinema is what its members make it.
