Tyne & Wear is home to a fine collection of beaches and when the sun makes an appearance, there is a rarely anywhere better to be for a great family day out.

Take a picnic, a bucket and spade, and some SPF and you’re all set-up for a fantastic time.

Tynemouth Longsands

A golden beach just a ten minute walk from either Tynemouth Metro Station or Cullercoats Metro Station.

King Edward’s Bay

A small bay enclosed in the cliffs of Tynemouth, superb for families. At the foot of Tynemouth Priory and Castle. Blue Flag 2011 and Quality Coast Award 2011.

Cullercoats Beach

A sandy bay backed by cliffs and surrounded by small piers. Close to Cullercoats Metro Station.

Roker Beach

Close to Sunderland City Centre, this is a traditional beach with cafes and restaurants. Close to St Peter’s Metro Station.

Seaburn Beach

Neighbours with Roker Beach, host to Sunderland Air Show. A great beach for all the traditional activities.  Close to Seaburn Metro Station.

Whitley Bay Beach

A one-and-a-half-mile stretch of sand and rock-pools, with various leisure amenities close by.

The southern stretch has Blue Flag status while at the northern end is St Mary's Island, a visitor centre and nature reserve. Close to Whitley Bay Metro Station. 

South Shields Beaches

Some of the finest beaches in Tyne & Wear reside in South Tyneside. Littlehaven Beach offers views of the harbour, whilst Sandhaven Beach has won a Blue Flag for its cleanliness. Close to South Shields Metro Station.
