The Women On The 6th Floor (Les Femmes Du 6eme Etage)(12A)
A culture clash comedy directed by Philippe Le Guay. The year is 1962 and stockbroker Jean-Louis Joubert (Fabrice Luchini) has scant joy in his life. His class-conscious wife Suzanne (Sandrine Kiberlain) keeps her emotions and desires firmly under wraps and his two sons, currently at boarding school, are both brats. By chance, Jean-Louis strays up to the sixth floor of his building where he encounters his family's maids including Carmen (Lola Duenas) and Concepcion (Carmen Maura). The husband is particularly smitten with new arrival Maria (Natalia Verbeke), whose lust for life despite long gruelling hours is a revelation and an inspiration.
The boundless joy of the maids is a tonic and gradually brings Jean-Louis out of his shell, compelling him to take up the women's grievances to ensure better working conditions.
