Joe Chapman was outstanding for the Eagles, scoring over a third of their points with 33.
He also managed six assists as he caused Heat an array of problems in Eagles’ biggest win of the season.
Paul Gause shot 25 points to help his side to a 37-point lead for the return leg in Surrey.
Eagles player/head coach Fabulous Flournoy refused to accept his side has an unassailable lead despite the large advantage.
Flournoy said: “It is the first half of the basketball game and they are in a powerful position now.
“The reason they are in a powerful position is because they have got nothing to lose, it creates a different type of atmosphere, especially if we go down there being lack luster.”
Opposition View: Guildford Heat Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos Reaction
Eagles’ player of the season Joe Chapman told Sky Tyne and Wear: “I just think the guys were well rested and we came out there with a lot of focus and a lot of intent.
“We had the first leg at home so obviously we want to go up as many points as we could.”
Defiant Guildford head coach Creon Raftoploulos says 'crazier things have happened' than a 37 point comeback in the second leg.
Newcastle travel to Guildford on Sunday for the return leg, tip off is at 3pm.
